Beaches And Major Cities Are The Most Popular Vacation Destinations This Summer
ARLINGTON, TX – One out of
three Americans said they plan to spend some time at the beach this summer,
according to a survey by American Consumer Opinion®, a worldwide panel of
consumers who get paid to take surveys. The same proportion, about 37%,
reported plans to visit a major city or cities. About one out of five
travelers, or 22%, plan to spend some time in the mountains, and 19% said they
will visit an amusement park or a national (or state) park.
"The popularity of
beaches and amusement parks among survey respondents makes sense, considering
that they also named Florida and California their top vacation spots," said Jerry W.
Thomas, President/CEO of Decision Analyst, Inc., which owns American Consumer
Opinion®. "And the popularity of major cities as vacation destinations
would seem to indicate that people are not letting the ongoing terrorist threat
keep them away from cities."
About 8 out of 10 Americans
said they will take at least one vacation trip this summer, according to the
survey, while the remaining 22% of the respondents either haven’t yet decided
whether to take a vacation trip, or do not plan to take any vacation trips this
year.
Methodology
Based on an Internet survey
of 495 U.S. respondents balanced by gender, age and geography,
conducted between May 10 and May 17, 2002.
Respondents were members of the American Consumer
Opinion®.
